The Hospital is a recurring setting in My Neighbor Totoro. There, Mei and Satsuki's mother Yasuko Kusakabe is a patient while she is sick. She stays at the hospital throughout the entire film, but does return home during the end credits. It is thought that she is staying there due to the presence of tuberculosis. The hospital is revealed at the end of the movie when Satsuki and Mei arrive with Catbus. They are seen hiding in a tree while her mother and father talk.

The film takes place in Sayama Hills (狭山丘陵) where also Hachikokuyama Hospital (八国山病院) or 新山手病院 is, which is believed to be the model of the hospital where Yasuko is: Shichikokuyama Hospital (七国山病院).
